I have a very large pile of shreddings from Leylandii prunings. A lot has been useful as deep litter for our hens, but much remains. Does anyone have experience of trying to compost this material? Otherwise, any suggestions please.

Not sure it would be a good idea in the compost the needles will take a long time to rot down.

Didn't we have an almost identical question a few weeks ago? Might be worth doing a search to see what people said then (but I'm sure it was the same as the above)

We did Steragram... must be the time for leylandii pruning!

Thank you all for your advice. Looks like I'll be making some paths!

Bulba tends to put ours on the paths in the veggie garden

Yeah around the veg and fruit paths is where I would put it - stops weeds.

Indeed ... apply at least 6 inches to kill grass or weeds, or they will find a teeny bit of light and grow through. Under hedges is also good.

Do not put on the actual growing soil only paths! The resins can cause problems.

I meant back under the leylandii or any other conifer hedge you may have!

I would only use leylandii material for dressing paths.
