Most hardy osteospermum variety and pruning

United Kingdom

Would you let me know the hardiest osteospermum plant available, I've tried to over winter plants but have failed miserably!
Also is pruning necessary, the plants tend to get a bit woody and unattractive.

Osteospermum jucundum is the only reliably hardy one, whatever the Nurseries promise! I have tried other so-called hardy named ones and they didn't survive.

I don't exactly prune mine, they do creep in the border, layering themselves, and I sometimes cut off or pull out a dead piece, as you say, woody.

I am replacing a few this year as they have got too woody and are well past it!

How do I say thanks?
