Do I need to try to get rid of ants from the compost bin.
South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
When I removed the lid from my compost bin there were hundreds of ants crawling all over the rotting vegetation. do I need to apply ant remover or are they best left alone?

We are lucky, we have a green woodpecker who eats ours. We don't mind the holes, it's just great watching him/her.....

I would say yes as you have a nest there by the sound of things - otherwise the ants will be in your garden wherever you put the compost. A few wandering around I would just ignore.
