Box Hedge Dying
By Darrell

Planted some box hedge in the front of my garden, small 6 inch high plants. When planted put limestone chippings over boarder area for decoration / water retention. Some of the plants look like they are dying. Is this normal or would the chippings be causing this ?

This has been a very dry Spring. Did you make sure the roots of the trees were well moist before planting. Box is so dense that water runs off it and misses the roots especially when newly planted from pots.

Limestone chippings shouldn't be causing a problem as boxwood can grow in a variety of soils (though personally I would not use)... have you been feeding them? They need KPK - 3 parts magnesium, 2 parts phosphorous, 3 parts potassium. Were they exposed to winter sun/wind that could be the problem.
