I'd put them into pots now and keep them frost free in a greenhouse/shed. I would then plunge the pot into the border where I want them to flower.
if you want them to be in a mixed planted pot then similar procedure. put the bulbs in late march with the other plants as appropriate.
i have never got them to overwinter when planted directly into the ground. welcome to GoY too.
