Help identify this peculiar plant

I recently bought this plant from our local florist who said it was a "happy plant" although I can't find any information about it. It's growing out of a split green pod (very similar to how an avocado grows). Does anyone know what it is?

Hi Andrewg welcome to goy always nice to hear about gardens and plants from other side of pond.May be way off beam here but looks very much like coconut but that advice must be regarded as very unofficial as in UK and no expert on such tropicana.ps did those bluejays ever return or still on strike?
