Where do I site my veg patch?

I have the ideal site for my vegetables, sheltered but in full sun, the only problem is that it is very close to my boundary and about 6 feet from that boundary are two enormous silver birch trees. When we laid grass on the area a few years ago I remember the problems we had with roots from the trees. If I put my veg in raised beds will this alleviate the problem of the roots or will they just grow up into the raised beds. Any suggestions you have would be grateful received. Thank you.

Raised beds are fine. The Birch roots will be well down into the water table and will have no interset in growing up again. Belt an braces: put porous liner under your beds.
