Hi All! Got a bit of a mystery for you - I have just had an e-mail from a good friend asking me to identify this shrub - which is growing on some wasteland along an old railway line in Edinburgh.
He couldn't identify it and asked for my help. Now strangely enough - I do know it - but for the life of me I cannot remember it
So - any help would be gratefully received - please and thank you in anticipation Folks!!

WOW - that was fast and looks to be spot on Kasy...
Old age is a bummer and my memory ain't what it used to be but I had figured it was a Rubus but was puzzled by the fact it was spineless!!
Thank you SO much - I really appreciate the info and will pass it on STAT!!!

You're welcome:)
the one at work is actually Rubus spectabilis 'Olympic Double' - but I simply googled pink bramble and it come up:) There is so many new varieties - it's hard to keep a track on them no matter the age, lol.

Thanks Kasy....yes indeed I did a quick look too - after your "prompt prompt" HA HA .... and saw that pretty double version.
However I remembered from away back when Councils planted shrubs and not concrete....LOL that they used this shrub extensively - and I couldn't remember its name.
That was very crafty to plug in "pink bramble" - that's what I call lateral thinking....LOL

Warning, it can be a real thug in the garden as it suckers very widely.

Thanks Owdboddy - I had "twigged" that .....LOL and my chum who found the bush of it yesterday said there was a fair amount of it around...so he wisely resisted the notion to "half-inch" a piece...LOL
Pity though as it is a pretty thing!

I just discovered this plant this week at work - looks like Rubus spectabilis or Salmonberry.
