stopping tomatoes growing to tall
By Millwall

Last year I grew tomatoes from seed, a great crop, but they grew to over 7ft tall. I've done the same again this year, but don't want them to reach such giddy heights. What is the safest way to stunt their growth? Kevin Mc

Yes, you'll get lovely bushy plants when you nip the top shoots off. I used to nip at 4 trusses (that's the flower branches, in case you're not aware) and if you are, sorry for the grandmother and eggs business, lol.

let them go to five or six trusses and then nip the tops out , whenyou do this you will need to nip out side shoots more often as they will grow more when the tops nipped out.
