Ive got a shady area most of the day and Ive got hostas, astillbe, bleeding heart and ferns there and they come back lovely every year :)

Campanula trachelium will tolerate shade and flowers in July/August so is good for giving colour later in the year. Heucheras also love shade and there are varieties with lots of different coloured leaves

Epimediums like shade, as do Tiarella, Cyclamen coum & Cyclamen hederifolium, japanese anemones. Hardy Fuchsias do surprisingly well - not as well as in more sun, but they tolerate it.

There are lots from ferns to hostas to tiarella. Go to the bottom of the page and click on s then it will give you lots of lists and there is one for shade. click there and there will lots of suggestions. I have a lot of shade so I have lots [look at my garden list but do you want flowers/shrubs bulbs etc? Lots of choices :o)
