Best thing is not to plant onions in the same bed this year. You need to rotate veg. The onion fly lifecycle means that the longer you keep onions in one place the worse it gets every year as you are helping the larvae to feed and grow to flies and then make more grubs to eat your onions. There are no chemicals that I can think of to stop them.
