If, by castor oil plant, you actually mean Fatsia japonica, and its growing outside, yes, you can - but its best done late April/May, specially this year when its turned so cold. Note that castor oil plant is actually Ricinus, an annual in this country, or a houseplant, which is not related to Fatsia japonica.
