I planted out some cosmos seedlings about 6 inches high, something is chewing into the stems about 2/3 inches above the ground, any ideas what it could be anyone?

Probably slugs or snails or both, go out just before it goes dark, and check carefully, or put some slug pellets down, Derekm.

A bit early to have planted Cosmos out,Anita...too cold and wet..I've never experienced slugs or snails ever going near mine, and grow them every year..hope you don't lose them all..if so,there is still time to sow some more...

I would suspect cutworms, myself.
