We have a plant called Salix lanata which hasn't been looked after well. It's new growth is like catkins on the end of long woody stems. I would like to know if I can do anything g to it that would make the growth start lower down the stems. Thanks to anyone who answers

Mine gets pruned to about 12 inches high every other year. So you may prune it severely to encourage new growth. Now is the right time as then you get lovely new silvery leaves in a few weeks time.

They do prefer damp, heavy soil, and do not do well on chalk, so perhaps the soil conditions are not appropriate for it.

In a pot or in the ground? And how long have you had it?
