I have two large peace lillies which I look after in the office. I cut the whole flower out from as low down the stem as I can. They seem healthy enough.

I have a peace lily my son bought it for me last year for Mother's day, the first year it flowered lovely, when they the flowers died I found you could pull the whole stem out, it was in a kind of sheath, I am not saying what I did was right, but it did seem to work. It hasn't really flowered much this year but I do have an abundunance of leaves.
