Hi Dave 10 inches is not deep enough for a plum tree and as it is standing on 2.5 feet of soil I wonder why you haven't just planted it in this. The 'root stock' is what the scion (growing top) has been grafted onto. As such part of it should be in the ground and part above ground. Is there a reason why you are keeping it in the pot?
