I planted a fatsia japanica last summer and I notice black edges on the new growth. It is now turning dark brown and dried out. What is the problem? I also see the same happening to a twelve year old spotted laurel.

Answers

Frost damage on the Fatsia - if its the new leaves which are affected on the Aucuba (laurel), same explanation. Young leaves opening this time of year can easily be nipped by cold temperatures. Its unusually cold for this late in the year, and we are still getting frost at night - unless its wet and pouring with rain, that is.

How do I say thanks?
