Can anyone tell us how to get rid of white fly from our compost machine, we were told to use damp newspaper which we have tried but that has not worked,

York. do you shred your own paper? If so add that too, even a layer of straw might help.

I find that a dose of the anti bacterial fairy washing up liquid works a treat! Even a mild solution on my apline strawberry has stopped the little blighters in their tracks. Hot spell in March has a lot to answer for - I've never known so many white fly so early in the season.

Hi Julier sorry but I would not advise anyone to use Fairy Liquid anywhere near their compost - or anything else they were growing for that matter. Think about your statement 'antibacterial' yet we need the bacteria in the compost to do their work... I hope you are not eating your alpine strawberries with their toxic coating of Fairy Liquid!

I always understood you got white fly in your compost if it was too damp... So perhaps you have been putting to much wet and very sappy plant material in your composter - try dry cardboard.
