Fritillaria imperialis (Crown Imperial). You must have thrown a small bulb into the bin with the weeds.

Cooooo, don't they look a bit like lilies? I've never grown Frit's so didn't know what they looked like.

It does look more like an asiatic lily. My crown imperials have finished flowering now and the flower buds formed differently. Did you have lilies in pots last year and accidently threw it out Mookins?

Hehehe! Mookins, did your last owners leave any compost? Or did your hubby chuck it in a fit?!?! Lol!!

Get hubby to take pic of your legs!!! Such a funny image!!

Yeah. I'm loathe to contradict Bulbaholic, but my lilies are growing now and look just like this.

I can only think that the bulb must of got caught whilst I was weeding, In one of my questions previously I said that I had seen artichoke type bulbs maybe I hoiked them out by mistake. moongrower said thet they were liliums where the bulbs were seen so maybe they are Lilys

No problem in alternative opinions. Frit imperialis is rather lily like in both its bulb and flower.

Hi Mookins, I throw away all kinds of bulbs when I empty my pots of old compost which contain them. In order to get rid of the spent compost I fling trowels of it out across the communal lawn at the rear of the block of flats where I live. To my surprise, all sorts of funny things have been starting to sprout in the lawn. The groundsmen who periodically mow the lawn must be a little bemused. Rather than mowing across it regardless, they have been mowing around it, so that what results now is an island of rather long grass with literally allsorts of bulb-plants coming up and flowering in it. The bulbs can't be more than an inch or two deep in the ground. This looks like being a permanent and ongoing garden feature, as I quite often go and do more flinging of plant material year round.
With best wishes, JONATHAN H.

We always dispose of old compost onto the garden. It makes for interesting weeding and some very pleasant surprises.
