can you grow a climbing rose in a big pot

I would like to put a rose to climb up the front wall but its on flags so I thought if I put it in a pot would it grow okay.

Yes. Make sure you have a good sized pot though and as Helen says, feed and water regularly.
Climbers seem to do OK in pots, but wouldn't recommend a rambler in one.
Your other option would be to lift a flag. Plant the rose and then surround by pebbles or something to blend it back into the flags.

mines certainly do Sheil, even the ones on north/west facing wall.
I just make sure they are fed and watered regularly.
