Thank you for the reply, but the ants are killing my lawn. Where they are the lawn has died so I now have many patches of dead grass. Also they are now in 2 borders, and 3 lots of plants have just died overnight. On liftin g them to throw away - again I found masses of ants under

You must have light sandy soil and be living somewhere in Devon that has a dry microclimate to be having such a bad problem with ants.
You can now buy a nematode treatment to water onto the soil for ants - google Nemesys and check out their products for the right one. Can only be used within a certain temperature range,but the info will be on line or on the packets.
