Protecting Lilacs from rain

Oregon, United States

Can I throw a light plastic cover over our lilac bush to protect it from getting brown from rain?

On plant Syringa meyeri (Lilac)

Plastic will do two things - trap heat and moisture. Depending on conditions you can damage leaves in a matter of hours. Maybe consider shadecloth - it is like a very heavy synthetic screen. Blocks light rain, allows air to circulate. Can be expensive, but lasts forever..... See if you have enough air circulation for the bush - the issue may not be too much rain, but too little breeze
