Has anyone got experience of composting spent coffee grounds? I can get bucketfuls from Starbucks and which, apparently, make a good addition to home made compost. Although coffee is acidic, I am led to believe the acidity leaches out during brewing and the grounds are PH neutral. As they are free and freely available it seems a shame not to use them but I would be interested in anyone's experience or views please.

Thanks for your comment Moon Grower. That's what I had read too but I wish I could find someone who has actually added them in quantity to their compost and assessed the results after a few months. There is a forum in the USA which suggests that they can be composted as they are and within 6 months become beautiful potting compost!

I'm sure you could set up a bin to just compost the grounds... why not give it a try and see what happens? Seems worms like them too!

Not used it in great quantity but I have added coffee grounds at the base of Blueberry and conifers mixed with some compost without any issues. I read forums about using coffee grounds, as you said it seems like people getting the grounds from Starbucks and adding it raw to the ground and they say it works great.

I got my first 2 gallon bucketful last night, still warm! I am going to collect the same quantity three times a week so I will test the results and post them here.
Thanks for the comments and advice.

Great - perhaps you could write a blog about your results so we can all learn.

Coffe grounds can make a good addition to compost and are just about neutral after the actual brewing process. My understanding is no more that 25% in your compost. In other words 75% should be from other things.
