my hellebores have flowered but as I go to dehead them inside the flower are bud like seeds. What should I do. Should I leave the flower heads on or take off and keep the seed like buds. Not a gardener as you can see!

Hi Wendy and welcome to GoY. If you want to try and grow more hellebores from the seed then you will need to leave the dead flower heads on the plant until the seed ripens; otherwise cut them off. If what you have are Orientalis hybrids I would cut the flower and seed heads off as you are unlikely to get the same colour or pattern of flower that is on the parent plant. If this is one of the species hellebores then it is worth growing the seed on.

Yes, agree MG ...and also I would say that if you do leave them on, once the seedlings have got their roots down they are little devils to get out, (can you tell I speak from bitter experience?) so definitely dead-head them unless you want little ones all over the place! I usually go around and dead-head all mine over the course of a day or two during May, before they get a chance to ripen!

Indeed the seedlings are little devils to remove unless you catch them early enough.

Thank you both of you, very helpful. I will be out tonight (weather permitting) cutting down.
