I PLANTED THIS APRIL A 2YR OLD DWARF ROOTSTOCK BRAEBURN APPLE TREE ABOUT 6FT TALL, AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO PRUNE UNTIL THIS WINTER. THE TREE HAS ABOUT 4FT OF BARE STEM BEFORE THE BRANCHES START, OF WHICH THERE ARE 5 AV;LENGTH APPROX 9INS. ABOVE THE TOP BRANCH IS ABOUT 1FT OF LEADER, MY QUESTION IS, IS THE 4FT OF BARE STEM TO MUCH FOR A DWARF TREE, I THOUGHT ABOUT 2FT, BEFORE THE 1ST BRANCH WAS ABOUT RIGHT, IF SO IS IT POSSIBLE TO CORRECT AND IF SO HOW?? REGARDS IAN.

A standard tree has a trunk of anything over 4feet, below 4feet and it,s a half standard, but once you have this length there isn,t a thing you can do about it, however I don,t think it is too high for a dwarf, as it will never get any higher, only thicker, Derek.
