My sage is covered with small cream coloured insects which lift in clouds when I try to pick some. The leaves are turning yellow and look as if they are dying. How can I combat this pest and is the sage safe to eat? (although it does not smell much once contaminated)

Is this white fly? Loads of them underneath the leaves and more white than cream? If so I would not have thought that this is causing damage to the sage. It can be difficult to treat but all you need to do is wash them off before you bring them into the house. Can a sever infestation cause damage? You could spray them with a bug killer on the plant or give it a good shake and them spray the air, might work.

If it was mine and in a pot I would throw it away and start again. Poor plant!
