Brown, dried up leaves.

This shrub has very pretty pink flowers but a lot of it's leaves are dead. There are new ones growing but it looks very untidy. Same thing happend last year, should I have cut it back perhaps?

Thank you Mims2. I'll do as you suggest and now that I know its name I can add it to my plants. Love GoY.

i prune mine back in the early spring, leaving last years growth to protect from hard frosts.

it's Phygelius, and they do have a tendency to look a bit tatty at times. It's been very dry and that's why the leaves are dead. You could sacrifice the flowers you've got now and cut it back to half its size - it'll regrow and flower again. And remember next year to cut it sooner! Pretty colour though.
