Growing Asters

How do I take of the asters in my garden? Do I need to be "pinching back" the blossoms as I do with the mums to delay blooming?

I don't really know what type of Asters would need pinching back, so I'm a bit puzzled. I realise that I am across the 'pond' from you, but I don't do anything to mine except support them as they grow. Maybe one of your fellow countrymen might be able to help more.
