Can anyone identify this plant for me?
It has small purple flowers.
Thanks,

That was my first thought too, Drc. But Sue says 'Purple' flowers... Sambucus? Purple flowers? is there such a creature? :)
I will await further suggestions I think. Intriguing...

Is it not one of those large, shrubby Solanum thingys whose name always escapes me. The small lilac potato like flowers are followed by smooth green berries.

I think you might be right Andy the flowers look about right. I believe it is part of the potato family and the flowers and berries are the same. They cannot be eaten.
