I would like to do a small memorial plot for a very close relative

My boyfriends grandfather passed away very suddenly recently and outside his nan's house she has a wall with a small plot of soil on top (about 30cm by 40cm). We have had a small plaque made up but I am not at all sure what to plant in the soil as it is not very deep and is in the shade quite a bit. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Neither Gentians nor edelweiss tolerate a lot of shade well... for this year how about trying some of the smaller bedding plants and seeing what does well? That will give you time to work out just what will look good there for future years. Otherwise google 'shade loving plants' and select ones that are not going to grow to big

Perhaps an alpine garden would be an idea - gentians, eidelweiss. Small delicate lovely things
