salix no leaves on

I have 2 salix trees that I have grown in pots for a few years and this year no life at all in them. We had a very severe winter this year could that have damaged them.

yes the twigs are snapping a tiny wee green shoot at the bottom though don't know if best to discard!

Oh dear. That doesn't look hopeful. Try scraping a little piece of bark off from the trunks and if there is any life left, the wood will show green, but if it's brown and the twigs snap easily, I'm afraid your willows are dead. Sorry.
Yes, the frost will have got to the roots.
