well thats the perfect excuse. cant not give the wisteria a support, espeially as it was a gift. then a garden always needs some height to draw the eye from the lawn. :o)

And of course in this weather you need somewhere to sit in the shade!

Wysterias are amazing. Had one in the last garden and have just put one in the new garden last year. Waiting for it to flower this year?? Mine is over a pergola.

Bang on about the advantages of having a shady place in which to sit with a glass of vino. Do you have BBQs in the garden? If so, explain that flies prefer sun to shade, so if you're eating in the shade there will be less flies. Any overlooking windows? A pergola with a Wisteria growing over it provides privacy from nosy neighbours. A well-made structure can only enhance a garden. You can tell I've argued all this before can't you!

Aw honey! I hate to tell you but it could be a long time before the wisteria flowers! That'll give you time to work on him!

That said, you could grow it in the biggest pot you can buy and train it into a standard. I'll help you with that.

Maybe the cost of the pot will change hubby's mind.......
