I planted some beautiful dahlias, but after deadheading the main flower, now have just small ones growing as side shoots. What might I have done wrong? Or is this just the way dahlias produce? Thanks abrayton

Agree entirely with Andy - that's what happens!

Regular (but not too heavy) feeding will help the side shoots to produce slightly larger flowers, but only within limits.

Sounds pretty normal to me, the side shoots...and their side shoots will produce flowers well into autumn
