This shrub is 2.5m high after 35 years! Leaves are oval shaped and alternate. Flowers are clusters of 5 sided downturned vases, white with a tint of pink. Flowering now, late may early June.

Well, I'm not sure but could it possibly be one of the Staphylea? If you get nut like seeds pods, then it could well be.
The flowers are very similar anyway.

It looks like a vaccinium Corymbosum to me (Blueberry) if you have had it 35 years? have you had any fruit on it ever. I have four new ones this year, early, mid season and late season floewring, The early season one looks just like your is now but I can see the little fruit forming as the flowers are dying back, oh for it to be the size of yours. Perhaps an expert on these will tell you yey or ney!! any way it is something for you to Googler to compare it. As Ryboy says the flowers are like a strawberry tree, but 35 yrs old mine is about 9 years old and now a tree about 10ft. High

Leucothoe? Google it on 'images' and compare your plant. Worth a try. Good luck.

Maybe an Enkianthus or Arbutus? Not so good with shrubs.
