Not sure about the hosta problem being down to the weather, as we have had exceptionally hot dry weeks, and 2 of my little variegated hostas have gone brown. I thought it was because I'd moved them in spring, but they were now getting too much sun.

Probably the rhubarb IS down to the weather.

As to the hosta, I wondered whether it might have had its leaves scorched? I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and it's sat outside in a pot waiting for me to plant it.

I know it sounds ridiculous to suggest sunburn in this awful weather, but we have had the occasional glimpse! However, I suppose if that is the case, it would scorch in the border too, and since it will live in a border for the rest of its life, as do everyone else's hostas, perhaps that's not very likely.
