can u explain a strange growth on my forsythia bush. it comes from a bottom stem and looks like a fibreous belt about 2ins wide. a large ball of leafs at the top and leafs growing out of stem all the way up. thank you

I am guessing without a photograph but Forsythia is one of the plants where Fasciation occurs quite often. Fasciation is just a malformation of the flower or stem, you can leave it or cut it out. Link for you.

You could google image search Fasciation in plants and see some weird ones.
