why are my strawberries sprouting? On the plants, before they even turn red, the seeds appear to be germinating and growing. Is this normal? Can I plant them and grow new strawberries?
Update - No not runners, I've had a few of those. It's the berries themselves that are sprouting. Each little seed on the strawberry appears to be growing, making each berry look almost fluffy. Never seen them do this before, and had about 6 which have sprouted!

Photo added. Not the worlds greatest shot, but shows what I'm talking about. Not all the strawberries have done this but it's a few, and they are not all on the same plant. Hmm interesting, methinks it could be a climate thing??

Are they sending out runners? You can peg these down where the new leaves sprout and then cut them off from the parent plant when they have rooted.
