I have a Spiraea x arguta that is quite old and very leggy will it be ok if I prune it back quite hard?

It is on an east facing and may have been there for a number of years without being pruned.

I have a Spirea Anthony Waterer Goldflame and take it back to around a foot high every spring. It's never failed me yet, so yes it's ok to prune it hard.

Yes it will benefit from a good prune. I cut out the woody stems of mine regularly and it comes shooting back every year.
