You'll get better results with a seed mix for shady areas, but then you'd have to be even more rigorous about stone removal.

Previous question
Rake it and rake it until the soil is a fine tilth and all the lumps have gone. Keep picking out the stones all the time. Then after you have laid the turf keep it well watered for the first week or so.
