Is that the ivy on your house wall, Nosey?!!! If so, I would tend to agree that it hasn't worked! ;-)

What house?
I see no house. Is Sleeping Beauty hidden in there?

No problem directing visitors to your house, then, Nosey!
It's - "Wow"!

Goodness, Leigh, that is one rampant plant, isn't it? If it weren't for your house hiding under there I'd recommend a flame thrower! You're going to have to do something fairly drastic and soon, too. Each year we get wisteria and Boston vine zooming up the walls, and if we don't act quickly and it reaches the guttering, it can start doing damage and pulling it off the brackets. I imagine ivy must be even worse. It could even make it's way under the tiles into your roofspace. Not good!

i know gattina but i have a dilemma as im dissabled and not to good with hights . i know it should be pulled of but not possible bye me. ive done what should kill it ie cut it at the base ,every last bit as recomended on here and now all i can think of is some sort of systemic weed killer . the people who told me cutting it at the bottom are suspisiously not answering lol . ow well ill keep thinking xx .

I'm sure a lot of us would like to help but don't really know the answer, so we guess! To be honest, I can't think of a better solution than the one you have already tried for yourself. Best of luck.

Leigh, I know you couldn't be nasty if you tried! I know what you mean about heights: I can't go two rungs up a ladder and leave go with one hand to clean the windows. Any chance the council can help, or is that sort of thing all in the past now?

I think you can blame the rain for that greenery leaning on your frontage Nosey. Have you dined off any globe artichokes yet as a consolation prize from your front garden?

6 Aug, 2012

no i havnt dorjac as i keep them for there stunning blue flowers which is to late and the bees get drunk on the necter and sometimes stay the night lol . they dont even buzz propperly .

You're definitely in the wrong decade, Leigh! Sounds like the 60s to me lol! Any mushrooms in your garden?

6 Aug, 2012

Your garden is beautifully overgrown - just the look I'm aiming for. Ivy getting in the building is a bit too much though, as you say. Do you have a local freecycle website? We have a spin-off from ours in Exeter ( it's called Cafe Freecycle) and we can ask for help with all sorts practical probs. People like to help and especially if the request is from a disabled person. A lovely fella came and helped me with a job and refused to take any payment; he said "Just do someone a good turn". Ain't that a lovely way to think!
My disabled friend has also had a lot of help with difficult jobs in her garden and no-one has ever accepted payment, although an unwanted plant or a few cuttings and tea and biccies seems to be acceptable.
Just a thought Nosey. Hope you find a solution.

Such a lovely idea - wouldn't it be nice if it spread a bit? I think there are a lot of genuinely nice people out there.

I think I was one of those who said cut it off . I've been away for a week and have only just seen the pic. Its such a big plant that maybe it hasn't noticed yet that its lost its roots???Cut ivy does last for ages even lying on the ground and it has been very wet lately. Its good to know you can still get out through your door anyway.
