My (small purple June flowering) iris are now just a huge clump of greenery, getting in the way. Can I cut the greenery, do I have to reduce by separating the rhizome or has anyone any better suggestions? Please.

If you cut the leaves off they will be unable to build up the roots for next year's flowers. Best solution is to grow them somewhere where the green leaves won't be in the way for the rest of the year if you can.

I split Iris roots and transplanted them in October, they were fine.
