any ideas on this i have an ornamental wooden owl something has bored a hole in the base of it,noticed the sawdust the other day with a hole about 8mm,sorry about the photo.

If you noticed sawdust I would suggest it wasn't going in but coming out. If this was a foreign import then it could be anything. My brother use to sell beds and he found boring insects in the timber frames. There is the possibility it wasn't alone so why don't you pop it into a plastic bag and see what happens.

possibly woodwasps. they do this to lay eggs but 8mm is a pretty big hole. could be rodent damage.
