Thanks to all for helping with various questions. To summarise!
1 I finally lost the Australian tree fern, nothing at all this year apart from one growth on the side of it, which I don't think is really indicating life. I shall leave it alone however in hope!
2 I intend to look for some bulk purchases of hypericum in the autumn for my ground cover.
3 One comment on my wisteria. Earlier this year it had very few blooms compared with other years. However it is now ( Aug 28th ) covered with blooms as it should be in spring, very strange.
