« Do I cut down to ground level all perrenial plants in the autumn
I would use ordinary cactus compost. I never gave my cacti and succulents any fertilizer at all and they grew fine. If you want to grow one in a watering can you will probably have to plant it in one yourself. Do make sure it has adequate drainage as succulents need a light free draining soil kept very much on the dry side.
