Hi everyone. My question is about Pinks which I planted in a pot as plugs this year. Out of six plants, three have broken off and the largish buds feel empty. I think I have done something wrong. They've been fed weekly with tomato food and watered regularly. Could I have over-watered? Thankyou.

Mine too thrive on neglect on poor gritty soil!

It didn't occur to me to treat 'em mean! I'll stop feeding now and remember for next year. Thanks so much Drc and Sheilar - another lesson learnt.

One I was glad I learnt Mb as since I moved mine and neglected them they have been very pretty.

Now I know why my shallow 'sink pinks' sulked after I refurbed the sink a couple of years ago. They bloomed a bit better this year though. So next year with a bit of studied neglect they might perform better.

Should get better the more you ignore them Dorjac.

My thought is that your putting them in compost, feeding and watering is the problem, killing them with kindness as they are poor soil plants Merlinbabydog. I have lots,I took mine out of conditions like yours a few years ago and grow them in poor gritty soil and never feed them, since when they have thrived.
