Hi everyone, a friend of mine is growing poppies from seed and has asked me will they grow? I think she has asked the question as she has planted them into pots, I said that they should grow but that maybe she needs to cover the pots with a plastic bag, is that correct? I must point out that she is in Argentina, she is also wondering if the seeds that you buy in herbalist shops to eat can also be planted? Thanks.

they dont need covering except to stop the compost drying out. if they have just been done suggest she tips the compost and seed out where she wants them to flower.
as for the seeds bought in herbalists some plants will grow and i suspect poppy would be one that would. but other larger ones may not. worth a try. sunflowers do provided they havent been stripped of their outer coat.
