My Poor Broken Formosa Plant

Our formosa plant looked a picture in the front garden before the winter. We have had the plant for about five years.
Yesterday I noticed that the top of it had fallen off and was on the floor and only the stump was left in the pot.
Someone told me that a lot of formosa plants have been lost in this way over the winter.
We will need a new plant, maybe something different now to go in the middle of our paved area – boo hoo !! :-(
Can anyone suggest a plant that we could get?
-Thanks for any suggestions

Thanks Heron -the plant is in a pot which is on the centre of the flagstoned area so no poblem to get it out. Thanks for your suggestion for a hardy plant.

alot of people have lost plants like this in such a harsh winter richard, think its best to protect them now to be sure, dont let it stop you having another one richard just keep it protected with fleece in winter or take it inside :o)

We will get something else Sandra not sure what to get yet. it is a heavy pot so we will be covering it up (whatever we get) instead of taking it inside for the winter. Thanks for your visit to my log :-) -Richard

Such a shame Richard! At least you have an excuse to buy a lovely new plant now :-)

Richard, what a sorry sight, In recent years due to the mild winters we've been encouraged to buy plants that once would have been considered tender. Well most of us have learnt the hard way to be less ambitious. If I were you I'd go for something tougher not least because you'll have a job removing the Formosa without upsetting the nice flagstones. It's a wonderful site and there's so many 'hardy' plants that would look good there.
