Solo’s top-of-the range petrol hedgetrimmer, the deservedly renowned 161, offers the sort of performance, handling and day-in-day-out reliability that are a must-have for the professional gardener. Its very high-performance 29cc (1.2hp) engine has been designed to withstand the rigours of intensive commercial-use and incorporates Solo’s high-spec four-port transfer technology for less noise and lower fuel costs. Power is sent to the 60cm double-sided blades via a highly-durable three-piece forged crankshaft which is encased in a robust magnesium housing. The blades themselves are made from high-grade German steel and have been counter-ground for long intervals between sharpening and a clean, precise cut (the generous 31mm tooth-spacing on this model makes it suitable for thicker growth). The Solo 161 weighs just 5.7kg and features highly-effective multi-point vibration damping, so operator-fatigue is kept to a minimum. Starting is made reliable and stress-free, thanks to the inclusion of a fuel-primer and an electronic ignition; while a seven-step rotating handle provides a suitable working angle for every eventuality.
