Vegetable Seeds Runner Bean Enorma

Never has a name been more appropriate; Runner Bean Enorma Seeds produce enormously long 50cm smooth slender pods. A 1999 RHS Award of Garden Merit winner this produces very high yields with plenty of vigour - and is an ideal variety to grow for exhibitions.

Apart from its good flavour runner beans are also a good source of Vitamin C folate and iron with a high fibre content. When cooking do so for the minimum amount of time until tender as one-third of vitamins and some flavour are lost if overcooked. Alternatively these runner beans are suitable for freezing.

Sowing: These prefer to be grown in fertile moist yet well drained soil which has had plenty of well rotted compost dug into it the previous Autumn.
For an early start sow in April indoors or under glass and plant out after the last expected frost. For outdoors sowing do not sow until May or June at least 10 days after the last frost 5cm deep 15cm apart and in rows 38cm apart.

Growing: Thin out or transplant to 20-30cm apart.

Aftercare: Provide netting strings or canes for these beans to climb. Water regularly and liquid feed every 14 days during mid summer - a thick mulch will also help conserve moisture. Pick the beans regularly a little on the young side to ensure top quality and prolonged cropping.
