Whilst most Tulipa species don't really do that well in a domestic garden where it is not easy to replicate the conditions they thrive on in the wild there are a few true species and some cultivated forms and hybrids that given the right growing conditions - well-drained soil in full sun - can be very rewarding subjects for the amateur to grow. An historic variety dating back to the height of ‘Tulipmania' in 1620 and kept in cultivation by Hortus Bulborum in Limmen Holland. Very rare and very special. Flowers April.
